An art class offered by the City of Longwood takes place once a week in the evening. The art class teaches you how to oil paint and is held at the City Commission Chambers (no website; 175 West Warren Ave.; Longwood; 407-260-3484). The class is open to anyone regardless of skill level and a fee is charged per lesson. At the time of publication, the oil painting class takes place every Friday.
Children from elementary school up to adults can take tennis lessons in Candyland Park (longwoodfl.org). Students pay a fee per session, which is taught by a United States Professional Tennis Registry Certified Tennis Professional. The two classes scheduled in the evening are for children in middle school and adults. At the time of publication, tennis lessons are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for children in middle school and for adults.
Playing non-organized sports is another activity that you can do at night at parks in Longwood. Candyland Park (longwoodfl.org) has three lighted softball/baseball fields, three lighted tennis courts, two lighted basketball courts and one lighted futsal court. An hourly fee is charged for use of these facilities. At the time of publication, the cost for using the ball fields, basketball courts and futsal courts with lights is $25 per hour, and the fee for using a tennis court with lights ranges from $2 to $4 per hour.
The City of Longwood offers different kinds of fitness classes scheduled in the evening. At the time of publication, zumba/pilates, aerobics/pilates and line dancing classes are held in the evening. The schedule for the the one-hour, six-session classes may change depending on the month, but are usually scheduled once or twice a week. A fee is charged for the entire session with a $5.00 discount for seniors, at the time of publication. All classes take place in the Longwood Community Building (longwoodfl.org).
Community events scheduled during the evenings take place in Longwood throughout the year. At the time of publication, events include a one-day Art Show Exhibit in May and the Father and Daughter Dance in June. The Art Show Exhibit is a free event and the Father and Daughter Dance charges and a fee for each father/daughter couple and a different fee for anyone else who attends. Both of the events take place in the Longwood Community Building (longwoodfl.org).
About 25 minutes away in Orlando, you can take an evening tour of through the 100-acre Greenwood Cemetery (greenwood-cemetery.net). The History Stroll takes you through approximately four miles of the cemetery, which was established in 1880. You visit around 100 graves of notable figures in Orlando's history, including those of some of Orlando's founding families. At the time of publication, the free tour is scheduled from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. The tour is limited to 50 people and reservations are required.
