Most of the ski resorts in the Poconos facilitate night skiing and snowboarding. Ski resorts with night skiing provide lights on their slopes. Camelback, Alpine Mountain Ski and Snow Tubing Center, Blue Mountain and Shawnee Mountain are some of the Poconos' resorts that allow night skiing on their slopes. Depending on the amount of snowfall, the ski season in the Poconos usually runs from December through March. Two Poconos ski resorts, Blue Mountain and Alpine Mountain, also permit snow tubing at night.
In October, Milford hosts the annual Black Bear Film Festival; this festival features work from filmmakers throughout the United States. Milford is also home to the historic Milford Theater, which opened as a silent movie house in the early 20th century. The town of Jim Thorpe is home to the Mauch Chunk Opera House; the historic Opera House was built in 1882 and currently hosts live theater shows. Other live theater houses in the Poconos are the Shawnee Playhouse in Delaware, PA and the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg. The Mountain Laurel Pocono Mountains Performing Arts Center is an amphitheater for outdoor concerts.
Most cities and ski resorts in the Poconos have restaurants open at dinnertime for their residents and visitors. Mount Pocono and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area are the Poconos' two largest cities and have more restaurants than other municipalities in the region. One of the Poconos' restaurants, the Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville, brews their own beer at the restaurant; Barley Creek also offers tours to visitors of their brewery. The Riverwalck Saloon in Perryville serves Tex-Mex food and features a boardwalk area by the Pohopoco Creek, which runs by the restaurant.
The Poconos region is home to two casinos, the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre. Slot machines, table games – such as blackjack, craps and roulette – and poker tables are available at both. Mount Airy offers blackjack tournaments during the evening, while Mohegan Sun hosts No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em tournaments at night. From March to November, the Pocono Downs racetrack facilitates nighttime harness-style horse racing. Both Mohegan Sun and Mount Airy have adjacent hotels, entertainment venues, shops and restaurants.
