The Glenloch Recreation Center (no website; Stevens Entry, Peachtree City; 770-631-2542), open from dawn to dusk every day, offers gymnastics and dance and exercise classes in a small studio with bars and mirrors.
A senior citizen's facility, The Gathering Place (no website; 203 McIntosh Trail; Peachtree City; 770-631-2553), is a place where seniors can participate in activities such as attending a Parkinson's or breast cancer survivor's support group, attend a talk about fall prevention or take an art, sewing or fitness class. The center's facilities may be rented for private occasions. The Gathering Place is open from Monday to Friday.
People of all ages can not only read books but attend special events and regular adult and children's programs and classes at the Peachtree City Library (peachtree-city.org; 201 Willowbend Road, Peachtree City; 770-631-2520). Each week, the library has five to seven regular children's programs, including "Babytime," "Storytime," and "R.E.A.D. Reading Paws," where kids work with therapy dogs to improve reading skills. The library also features art exhibits, computer classes, monthly book clubs, a poetry group, an international film group and a "Teen Zone." Peachtree City Library is open daily.
The Dance Contempra Centre for Dance Education (dancecontempra.com; 303 Kelly Drive Suite 12, Peachtree City; 770-631-0460) hosts a series of shows throughout the school year. The center also has annual programs including a winter show in December and two spring shows in June. Past performances have included "Cinderella," "The Nutcracker" and "Babes in Toyland."
If you play an instrument, you can join the Peachtree Wind Ensemble (peachwind.org). This community band has open rehearsals every Monday night in St. Paul Lutheran Church (no website; 700 Ardenlee Parkway; Peachtree City; 770-486-3545). Be a part of this volunteer musician's group and play during special occasions such as patriotic events and school celebrations.
Dance Contempra Centre for Dance Education also offers dance lessons for children starting at age 3 to pre-professional levels. Learn classical and contemporary ballet, pointe, jazz, hip-hop, ballet/tap combo classes, tap, and modern/contemporary dance. Classes are offered throughout the year.
Take Irish dance lessons in the Drake School of Irish Dance (drakepeachtreecity.com) for a chance for participate in local performances and local and international dance competitions. Take a free trial class and continue with classes for dancers ages 3 to 4, beginners and advanced dancers and adults who want to take classes for fitness. Private lessons are also offered.
Children and adults can take classes in the performing and visual arts in Peachtree Arts Academy (peachtreearts.org). Classes in art, creative writing and voice lessons are offered. Learn how to play the piano, violin, guitar, trombone, trumpet, French horn, saxophone, percussion, clarinet, flute or oboe with private lessons, offered throughout the year, or group lessons, offered in August, January and June.
