Order a ticket. Tickets are available from The Abbott Magic Company’s website and by mail. In 2011 a ticket to the 4-day event cost $170. If you can’t attend all four days, buy a one-day pass or ticket to a single performance.
Drive to Colon, Michigan which is situated on Michigan Highway-86, midway between Chicago and Detroit.
Attend the magic shows. Expect to see a range of professional magicians, from prop comics who perform simple magic tricks to serious illusionists who regularly sell out arenas around the world.
Stop by the Colon Elementary School where magic equipment dealers from across the United States and Canada demonstrate and sell their wares. Buy a trick deck of cards or custom-made illusion.
Walk down State Street, Colon’s main street and watch amateur and semi-professional magicians perform for free. Search through rare books and crafts at the street fair sponsored by the local public library.
Take the “Famous Magicians Graveside Tour” led a professional magician who bills myself as “Al the Only”. Al travels from Hawaii each year to lead the tour which includes the gravesite of Harry Blackstone, Sr., a contemporary and rival of Harry Houdini.
Attend a free magic show at the FAB Magic Company magic shop. In addition to magic tricks, the owner, Rick Fisher, a professional magician and ventriloquist sells ventriloquist dolls and instructional DVDs.
Watch as young magicians perform in a talent show. Some contestants, like previous contest winner, Lance Burton become professional magicians in Las Vegas. Judges, who are themselves professional magicians, award cash prizes and trophies in this fiercely competitive contest. Even famous illusionist David Copperfield didn’t make the grade when he competed as a teenager.
