"Easy Rider" easily fits the description of a "road-trip movie." The main characters, Captain America and Billy, travel from Los Angeles, California, to New Orleans, Louisiana. They arrive just in time for Mardi Gras. Along the way, they travel through Arizona, New Mexico and Texas while riding motorcycles. Their trip takes them to a ranch, a hippie commune, small towns and monument valley. Blogs and movie sites list the specific locations the characters visited and provide maps of the route.
Choose a map that covers all of the locations covered by the movie. Slate.com provides an interactive map of the route that is retraced by film critic Keith Phipps. The map includes photos of all major locations as they were during the filming of the movie and as they appear today. The blog Google Maps Mania traces the movie's locations with markers at some of the movie's mains scenes. The International Movie Database also provides a list of every location that appeared in the movie and a short description of the events that took place at each stop.
Choose which vehicle you will use to retrace the route. Depending on how much of a fan you are, you could cover the route by chopper motorcycles, just like in the movie.
Pick a departure point from the list of locations included in the movie.
