Because Chicago is home to such diverse ethnicities, various stores and cuisines are readily available, including many retail delis, where you can purchase fresh cut meats, breads and cheeses.
Situated on the west side of the city, near the University of Illinois at Chicago, Conte di Savoia has been serving up meats, wines and cheeses since 1948. In the southwest area of Chicago lies the retail deli Bobak's Sausage Company. Since 1967, Bobak's has been serving a variety of Polish-style meats. Today, they serve up ham, bacon, loafs and, of course, sausages. Their store has a variety of imported condiments, an on-site butcher shop and a hot food buffet-style counter. On the northwest outskirts of Chicago lies Tony's Italian Deli & Subs. Tony's is a sub shop that creates large party subs, small individual subs or caters for events. They also offer authentic Italian take-out dinners, imported pastas, olive oils and vinegars, as well as espresso. You can visit the deli counter to order a sandwich or some cuts to go. The deli has been family-owned by the Dalmazios since 1978.
Joe and Frank's is a prime example of a traditional retail deli. It's still operated by the original owner's family and offers a wide selection of meat cuts. Some of their selection includes bacon, ham, loafs, sausages, hot dogs and smoked meats. They also sell a variety of cheeses and fresh bread. There are two locations, one south of the city in the town of Oak Lawn, and the other in southwest Chicago.
Two miles outside of Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood lies a small deli storefront on the corner of Erie and North Oakley Boulevard. The Fiore Delicatessen exudes a retro Italian style with a variety of deli staples including sandwiches, pizza by the slice and soups. They also have a small grocery section where they sell olive oils, tomato sauces and take-out dishes like manicotti and and ravioli.
