Campsites for recreational vehicles can be found near the Dallas area in varying price ranges. Two major lakes, Lake Ray Hubbard to the east and Lake Lewisville to the north, have campgrounds nearby, as do smaller lakes such as Lake Lavon and Grapevine Lake. Halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth, the city of Arlington is home to Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers and the amusement park, Six Flags over Texas. On the northeast side of Dallas, Southfork, the ranch used in filming the television series "Dallas" is located near Plano.

The Vineyards is located on the shores of Grapevine Lake, about halfway between Fort Worth and Dallas. Willow Grove Park on Lake Lewisville is located just north of Dallas. The park has 15 sites with water and electricity. There are picnic tables, a fishing dock, baseball field, and a playground for the children. A one-mile trail is available for nature walks, biking or jogging.
