Attractions in the City of Leesburg, Florida

The city of Leesburg is located in Lake County, Florida, in the Orlando metro area. The next time you visit Leesburg, named for Calvin and Evander Lee who were the city's founders, look to attend annual celebrations such as the Leesburg Main Street Carnival in October. Aside from special events, the city is home to interesting attractions for the entire family, whether you're a history buff or enjoy the outdoors.

  1. Parks

    • The city of Leesburg has 10 parks where you can enjoy a relaxing day enjoying a picnic or participating in outdoor recreation. Singletary Park and Herlong Park have piers where you can go fishing and Berry Park has a catch-and-release pond where you can take the kids fishing. Other activities you can enjoy in the parks are taking the dog to play in Leesburg Dog Park or playing a game of basketball in Corrine Williams Park. You can even feed the ducks or ride a boat to Monkey Island in Lake Griffin from Herlong Park's boat ramp.

    Trails

    • Magnolia Trail and Venetian Gardens Trail are walking or jogging and biking trails in Leesburg. Magnolia Trail, 7/10 of a mile long, is also lined with benches and exercise equipment, which can be used to incorporate exercises into your walking or biking routine. Town Square Park, which is often used as a venue for concerts and events, is located in front of City Hall and has a walking trail as well.

    Historical Attraction

    • Built in 1892, the historic Mote Morris House is one of a few original residences that still stand in Leesburg and is an example late Victorian architecture. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this two-story home also exhibits a display for artifacts found after the entire home was moved from its original location in 1990. Free tours of the home are offered every second and fourth Saturday of each month.

    Museum

    • Staffed by members of the Leesburg Heritage Society, the Leesburg Heritage Museum features an archive, artifacts and memorabilia related to the history of Leesburg. Located in the historic Woman's Club Building, the museum is a place where you can learn about 150 years of Leesburg history including the city's citrus industry and its Watermelon Festival. The museum is open on weekdays.
