Florence is in northwest Kentucky, roughly five miles from Cincinnati and the Ohio border. Though it is just a short drive to the urban area of Cincinnati, Florence itself offers a number of indoor and outdoor attractions to the almost 30,000 residents. Like most suburbs, it has a number of parks and shopping malls but is also home to a variety of fun activities and attractions including a professional baseball team.
The Florence Fundome is on the west side of Florence just off Highway 71. The Fundome includes a large roller rink equipped with dance lights and featuring a DJ as well as an arcade game center. It offers a number of different specials for birthday parties or special events that include skate rental, food, drinks and dessert. The Florence Fundome is closed many days during the week for private parties but the schedule changes depending on the season.
Boone Links Golf Course is also on the west side of town and roughly one mile south of the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. Formally the Boone Aire Country Club, the property features two courses designed to satisfy both golf experts and the average player. As of January 2011, rates vary depending if a player is a Boone Country resident and season passes start at $250. The grounds also feature a concession stand and a full outdoor catering menu.
The Champion Window Field is on the south end of town right where Highway 71 and Dixie Highway merge. Champion Window Field is home to the Florence Freedom, a professional baseball team that is a member of the West Division of the Frontier League. Since it began in 2004, the team has sent almost 25 players to the Major League level. The Freedom's season runs from May to September and the Champion Window Field also hosts a number of concerts throughout the summer while the team is on the road. The stadium also offers a variety of activities specific for kids including Birthday Bashes, Baseball Camps and a Kids Club.
Ollie's Skate Park is also on the south side of Florence right on Dixie Highway. Ollie's is an indoor skating park open to skateboarders, bikers and inline skaters. It features ramps and jumps that can challenge professional skaters, parts for intermediate riders as well as two-hour free lessons every Saturday with a skating instructor for beginners. As of January 2011, Ollie's offers special events throughout the year including all night skating every Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
