Minden is a town in Louisiana with a rich history. Visitors to the town can explore the Civil War history of the surrounding area and enjoy the small-town charm that Minden has maintained. Cultural and sporting pursuits can also be enjoyed in Minden. The nearest regional airport, served by seven airlines, is Shreveport Regional Airport, a 40-minute drive out of town. Minden also links into Greyhound bus routes.

    • Take a walk around the Old Minden Cemetery. With graves from the Civil War era, you can get a taste of the town’s history and admire the craftsmanship of some of the old memorial stones. The Old Minden Cemetery Association organizes events such as ghost walks and re-enactments of duels throughout the year. You can also get a flavor of local history simply by walking around Minden's downtown area and some of its older residential areas.

    Moess Center for the Arts and City Farm

    • Explore the Moess Center for the Arts and City Farm. The center is maintained by the Cultural Crossroads organization and provides a place for children and local artists to mix agriculture with art. The center runs educational programs for children and organizes regular arts festivals. It also hosts a weekly farmers’ market where you can buy fresh produce from the local farms.

    Germantown Colony and Museum

    • Visit Germantown Colony and Museum, seven miles north of Minden. The museum provides visitors with a look into the past and recreates the living conditions of the German colonists of the Utopian Movement of the Harmonist Society that settled in the area in the early 19th century.

    Minden Recreation Complex

    • Exercise at the 150-acre Minden Recreation Complex, one of the largest sports centers in Louisiana. It has a gymnasium, basketball courts, indoor walking track and heated pool. Outdoor facilities include swimming pool, racquetball, tennis courts, baseball fields, soccer and football fields, basketball courts and an outdoor walking trail. The complex is open to everyone but you will need to register for a photo ID card before you can use the facilities.

    Lake Bistineau

    • Take a 50-minute drive out of Minden to explore Lake Bistineau State Park. You can enjoy boating , waterskiing or bass fishing on the lake or use the hiking and horse trails in the woodland surrounding the lake. The complex also has a disk golf course, a lakefront beach, a baseball field, cabins, lodges and camping facilities.
