The Alabama Theatre is a place to experience country music. Performers from Nashville, Las Vegas and Los Angeles are often on stage, and some are well-known. The costumes are flamboyant and the sets are engaging. Of interest is that the state floats on rubber bushings to make the dancing look effortless, and the special effects are also noteworthy.
The House of Blues has a pirate theme because it is near a rumored hiding place for the legendary pirate Blackbeard. The building is a replica of an old tobacco producing farmhouse with an adjoining warehouse, and it has decorative tin and other authentic touches. However, most visitors also come to enjoy the entertaining performances and to hear the blues and jazz music; they also come to enjoy the Southern cuisine in its restaurant.
Family Kingdom Amusement Park has a free-fall ride with a drop of over 100 feet, called the Slingshot Drop Zone. The park also has an old-fashioned wooden roller coaster, the Swamp Fox. Visitors can see the ocean from the top of the park's main attraction, the largest Ferris wheel in the state. Other activities include an old-time carousel, go-carts, bumper cars and a laser-inspired western ride.
