Miller is a small community of 1,400, but you won't have trouble finding a place to stay here. The County Seat of Hand County, Miller offers opportunities for golf, fishing, hunting and camping, as well as city parks and a swimming pool with a water slide. Surrounded by farm and ranch land, the town has an agricultural economy as well as some industry, including the Mid-Dakota Rural Water System. The downtown core has a variety of businesses and historical buildings.
The Super 8 is located at the north end of Miller, near the Dairy Queen, Taylor's Restaurant and Ranch Cafe. This basic hotel offers economical rooms, starting at $60 per night. A continental breakfast is included, as is wireless Internet, and parking is available for large trucks and RVs. Tacoma Park and Fort Randall Dam are nearby, and Goose Lake is 16 miles away.
If you're in town to hunt pheasant, waterfowl or upland birds, Dakota Expeditions Lodge and Outfitters provides a complete experience including lodging, meals, trained guides with hunting dogs, transportation, bird cleaning and freezing. You can hunt on the Dakota Expeditions Property as well as 10,000 acres of private land. The lodge has rooms with private bathrooms and two or three beds. On-site massages can be arranged, and dog kennels and a horseshoe pit are outside. Meals include hearty servings of steak, pheasant, turkey, pork chops or ribs.
The locally-owned Dew Drop Inn combines luxury suites with pheasant cleaning and freezing facilities for the discriminating hunter. Pets are welcome, and picnic and playground area is available for children. The Old Street Cafe and Bob's Drive-In are a couple of the restaurants nearby.
In nearby St. Laurence, Carr Farm has four rooms that accommodate two or three people each, and four full bathrooms. There is a bar, pool table and large-screen TV in the lounge area. Guests receive three cooked meals a day featuring wild game, plus snacks. Wireless Internet is available, but if you prefer to simply enjoy the great outdoors, a patio overlooks a pond and 1,200 acres of pheasant habitat. Trained guides and hunting dogs can accompany you on your pheasant hunt.
