Hollywood, the capital of moviemaking in America, is one of the nation's top tourist destinations. Universal Studios is a theme park built around the moviemaking experience. Film fans can find the park just north of downtown Los Angeles---through rides, tours and attractions, visitors can get closer to some of the most famous moments in movie history.
Universalstudioshollywood.com bills the Studio Tour as "how Hollywood magic really happens." Tourists board trams that take them around the Universal Studios lot, allowing them to glimpse sets from films such as "War of the Worlds" and television shows such as "Desperate Housewives." For those who appreciate classic cinema, they can also see the classic Bates house from the movie "Psycho" and the robotic shark used in the film "Jaws."
Universal Studios has created rides based on some of its most recognizable entertainment properties, including "Shrek," "Jurassic Park," "Terminator," "The Blues Brothers" and "Backdraft." The studio also has a ride for the TV show "The Simpsons." The ride is built around Krustyland, a theme park created by the show's character Krusty the Clown. "The Los Angeles Times" travel section calls the ride a "visually stunning experience."
Citywalk features cinemas, dining, shopping and concerts designed to extend the Universal Studios experience. Citywalk also features 19 movie screens with stadium seating and IMAX capability. It offers more than 30 dining options, from casual sit-down restaurants to fast food. Shoppers have more than 30 retail options to choose from, including the Universal Studios shop. The Gibson Amphitheater hosts shows on a weekly basis.
There are plenty of options to purchase tickets, many of which are posted on Universal Studios' website. There are ways to get around paying full price for admission, though. Those options include ordering tickets in advance, ordering a CityPass (which gives users admission to several Hollywood attractions at one cost) or a Go Los Angeles card (a similar deal to the CityPass for the greater Los Angeles area).
