The Knott house museum was built in the 1840s and remains one of Tallahassee's oldest standing structures. The Knott house was the actual location of Lincoln's Emancipation Address speech in 1865. The museum provides historical information on Tallahassee's past as well as Florida's past. Hours for the museum are Wednesday through Friday, 1-4 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. One hour tours are available and depart on the hour during all open hours.
The mission of the Museum of Florida History is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret evidence of past and present cultures in Florida, and promote knowledge and appreciation of this heritage, according to the museum's website. It has ongoing and changing exhibits and features that range from the NASA program, to the history of Disney, to an exploration of Florida's famous women and much more. It also has a permanent exhibit section that includes the history of Florida in the Civil War and more.
The Challenger Learning Center is an attraction center that is designed with the family in mind. It's a 32,000 square-foot facility located on Kleman Plaza, which is conveniently located in downtown Tallahassee. The center offers an amazing amount of attractions for the family including space mission stimulators, aerospace movies, interactive learning centers and much more. The center uses aerospace as a theme to foster long-term interest in math, science, engineering and technology; create positive learning experiences; and motivate students to pursue higher education and careers in these fields, according to the website.
