Indoor Activities in Florida

Florida, which is best known for its warm climate, has an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, beautiful beaches and theme parks. But if your outdoor plans are rained out, don't panic. Florida offers plenty of indoor activities as well.
  1. The Mall at Millenia

    • The Mall at Millenia is about 20 minutes from the Orlando International Airport. It is home to several luxury brand stores, including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, Jimmy Choo and Tory Burch. Its three main department stores are Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Macy's. The mall also has a variety of dining options, such as the Cheesecake Factory, McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant, Brio Tuscan Grille and P.F. Chang's China Bistro. Additional amenities at the Mall at Millenia include valet parking and a foreign currency exchange center.

    Museum of Science and History

    • The Museum of Science and History in Jacksonville has exhibits on science as well as the natural environment and history of northeastern Florida. One of the museum's current exhibits, the Body Within, is a large interactive human body. According to the museum's website, visitors can walk down the body's digestive tract and leave out the ear while learning about how the body works. The museum also has a permanent aquarium, Water Worlds, with different water habitats and aquatic animals native to Florida. Daily admission at the museum ranges from $8 to $10.

    David A. Straz Jr. Center For the Performing Arts

    • The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, formerly known as Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, is in downtown Tampa along the Hillsborough River. It features a 335,000-square-foot facility with five theaters, a performing arts conservatory, a rehearsal hall, boutiques, three restaurants and banquet facilities. The center hosts a variety of performances, including plays, operas and concerts. Check out the facility's website for current shows and tickets.

    X-Treme Rock Climbing

    • X-Treme Rock Climbing is a full-service indoor rock climbing center in Miami. This 14,000-square-foot facility features various roofs and overhangs and has indoor rock climbing classes for adults and youth. X-Treme Rock Climbing is open seven days a week and has a pro shop on-site where you can buy your own gear or rent equipment for the day.
