Beaches in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin

Summer in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin brings the opening of several public beaches. Beaches in Milwaukee County can provide a quick, cool getaway from the hot summer sun. In addition to beaches, several sites have picnic areas and other amenities. Beaches in the Milwaukee County Park System are open each year starting mid to late June through August.

  1. Bradford Beach

    • Milwaukee County Parks considers Bradford Beach on Lake Michigan to be the most popular beach in Milwaukee County. Lifeguards are on duty 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week when the beach official opens each season. Amenities include sand volleyball courts, bathhouse and two concession buildings. Only personal flotation devices approved by the Coast Guard are allowed during life guard hours. Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Alcohol and grilling on the beach are not allowed.

    Tietjen Beach

    • Tietjen Beach is located within Doctors Park on Lake Michigan. Swimming is allowed, however, no life guards are on duty. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are allowed at the beach, and the Milwaukee County Park system says it discourages bringing other inflatables into the water. The park spans more than 54 acres and its amenities include picnic tables, a playground and restroom facility.

    Grant Beach

    • Grant Beach is located in Grant Park on Lake Michigan. Swimming is allowed, however, no life guards are on duty. Picnic tables are near the beach. Other amenities in the park, which spans more than 383 acres, include boat landings, a playground, restroom facilities and golf. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are allowed at the beach and the Milwaukee County Park system says it discourages bringing other inflatables into the water.

    McKinley Beach

    • McKinely Beach is located on Lake Michigan at McKinley Beach and Marina. The beach is not patrolled by life guards, but swimming is allowed. Unreserved picnic areas are near the beach. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are allowed at the beach, and the Milwaukee County Park system discourages other inflatables. Other features throughout the site include a playground, boat landing, restrooms and volleyball court.

    South Shore Beach

    • Located in South Shore Park on Lake Michigan, the South Shore beach is open to swimmers but does not have life guards. As with the other non-guarded beaches in Milwaukee County, approved personal flotation devices are allowed and the Milwaukee County Park system discourages other inflatables. Other features in the 44-acre park include a boat landing, playground, picnic tables and restroom facilities.
