Dating back to General Sherman's departure, the Atlanta restaurant scene has offered a wide variety of quality dining choices. Representing many cuisines such as soul food, Cajun and French, the city is filled with famous restaurants ready to satisfy nearly any taste or desire.

    • The Buckhead area of Atlanta offers the highest concentration of famous restaurants in the city, with the mid-town area coming in a close second.

    • The downtown area of Atlanta is largely deserted after business hours. Most of the famous restaurants are located in neighborhoods on the outskirts of the business district, with some extending outside the I-285 beltway.

    • Two of the most famous and significant restaurants in Atlanta are Pity Pat's Porch, located in the Peachtree Center neighborhood and Nikolai's Roof, found on the roof of the Atlanta Hilton.

    • The Varsity, located near Georgia Tech University for more than 80 years, is the world's largest drive-in restaurant. It features a 150-foot long serving counter and more than 200 employees. Actor/comedian Nipsey Russell once worked at The Varsity as a car hop.

    History

    • For a bit of history, stop by the Dwarf House Restaurant in the Hapeville neighborhood for the best fried chicken sandwich in town. This restaurant was opened by S. Truett Cathy in 1946. It served as a testing ground and inspiration for the Chik-fil-A restaurant empire.
