Gansevoort is a small hamlet located in the town of Northumberland in Saratoga County. Due to its modest size, Gansevoort has a small selection of eateries; however, the cuisine on offer includes Italian, French and American. These are mostly family-run restaurants and cafes that have been established for several decades, indicating they have earned a reputation among the local residents.
The Wishing Well, open since 1936, has a cozy dining room and serves American cuisine. Steaks and seafood feature prominently on the menu, and diners can choose from filet mignon, New York strip steak, frogs legs and steamed Maine lobster. Other meat options include calves liver, duckling in raspberry glaze and veal parmesan. There is a separate bar menu that also offers substantial dishes such as seafood paella, scallops and BBQ ribs. The Wishing Well has special wedding packages and can cater to receptions of up to 120 people.
The Gansevoort Mansion Edgewood Café is only open for breakfast and lunch as it closes at 2 p.m. each day. Customers can choose healthy options such as fruit, cereals and yogurt for breakfast; alternatively there are omelets and pancakes. The menu also has breakfast sandwiches available consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage and cheese in a croissant or muffin, French toast, and sweet crepes with raisins and cottage cream.
Christina's Pizza was first established in 1984. This pizzeria offers both takeout and eat in food. Customers can choose calzones as well as regular pizzas, New York or Sicilian style steaks, wings, salads and stromboli.
The famous Taco Bell chain has a branch in Gansevoort. Nachos, tacos, burritos and salads are on the menu as well as specialties such as "enchiritos" -- a tortilla stuffed with beef and beans, covered in melted cheddar cheese -- and steaks wrapped in tortillas. Customers can eat in or purchase food to go.
Chez Pierre has been serving French cuisine in Gansevoort since 1963. The menu offers a combination of typical French dishes and new creations from the restaurant owners such as veal Vosgienne and tournedos chasseur. Other dishes include Beef Wellington, chateaubriand, frog's legs and chicken breast stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese. As well as the main dining area, there is a lounge area with a separate menu offering salads, brie in puff pastry and steak tartare.
