From hooka lounges to jazz clubs, there are plenty of options for those under the age of 21.
Located in San Diego's Balboa Park is the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Admission for adults (as of October 2010) is $10 for the gallery experience and there are dozens of exhibits to explore. The center offers hands-on learning experiences including building free-form structures from wooden planks, geyser models and models of tornadoes. On the first Wednesday of every month, the San Diego Astronomy Association places giant telescopes in the park to offer visitors views of the nighttime sky for free.
Cairo Hooka Lounge is a small, comfortable lounge where visitors may enjoy hookah pipes with flavored tobacco including Starbuzz, Al Fakher and in-house blends. Open to those 18 and up, the lounge offers espresso coffee and Turkish blend coffee. Visitors may enjoy music with friends while sampling different tobaccos. As of October 2010, the hooka is $8.99 for as long as the tobacco lasts, which is usually about 30 minutes. For in-house blend, the price is $11.99.
Located in the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center, Dizzy's is a jazz music lounge without any distractions. The focus of Dizzy's is the live music, so no televisions are present. Patrons may listen to the music and chat amongst themselves. Dizzy's allows visitors to bring their own coffee, water or soft drinks in case they get thirsty. Nearby are many close restaurants so that individuals may purchase food before the show starts. Dizzy's is open to all ages and the environment and dress code is casual and comfortable.
