Now North Carolina's largest city, Charlotte was incorporated in 1768 and was named after Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Streliz, the wife of King George III of Great Britain. This is why Charlotte is located in Mecklenburg County and is nicknamed The Queen City.
North Carolina's state dance is named The Carolina Shag and is a swing dance to rhythm and blues music. Shag partners can do challenge steps, whereby each dancer performs a syncopated pattern, then lets the other try to out-dance them.
