Branson is a city located in the Ozark Mountains in the southern portion of Missouri. Residents of the state and tourists from surrounding states come to Branson for its concerts, camping and other attractions.
Branson first attracted tourists in the 1960s when its Old Mill Theater began an outdoor production based on a book about the Ozarks. The Black Oak Mountain Amphitheater came on line in 1983 and hosted major concert acts before closing in 2000. The city continues as a gathering place for people looking for cultural events and family recreational activities.
Branson offers tourists a number of different activities during their visit. The Silver Dollar City theme park has a theme from the 1880s. White Water water park has water slides, a giant raft ride and wave pools. Other attractions include a Ripley's Believe it or Not Odditorium, a number of wineries and a museum to remember the Titanic. Golf courses are another place for guests to spend their time, including courses that bear the names of John Daly and Payne Stewart.
Visitors to Branson have more than 200 lodging options from which to choose. Bed and breakfast inns, luxury resorts and hotels are available for travelers who want to stay indoors. The area also offers more than 20 RV, cabin and tent campgrounds for guests who prefer that option.
