Good Restaurants for Breakfast

A number of restaurants focus on breakfast foods. It does not matter whether you want breakfast in the morning or at night, most offer the food whenever the doors are open, some even 24-hours a day, most of which are national chain restaurants, such as Denny's and IHOP.

  1. Denny's

    • Denny's has been around since 1953, making it over 50 years old. The goal has been to provide breakfast and casual dining every hour of the day. Known for eggs any style and buttery hashbrowns, Denny's was founded in Irvine, California. The headquarters moved to South Carolina in 1991 as the chain expanded to over 1000 restaurants. The chain aims to service families and the elderly by running specials for both children and seniors to make food affordable. Denny's is located in all 50 states.

    International House of Pancakes

    • International House of Pancakes (IHOP) was also started in California in 1958 with the goal to provide pancakes all day long and now has locations in every state. The restaurant specializes in large breakfast combinations to take care of everyone's breakfast needs. These usually include some sort of eggs, sometimes omelets, with a potato, toast and meat such as bacon. Almost every item on the menu offers pancakes as a side. Most locations are franchises, but offer the specials of the parent company as advertised including deals such as "kids eat free" and "midnight specials."

For those looking for a more health conscious meal, IHOP allows for sides of cottage cheese or fruit in place of potatoes or pancakes for a small extra fee. You can also substitute egg whites for whole eggs.

    Waffle House

    • Waffle House first opened its doors in 1955 in Georgia. The goal of the restaurant was to serve good food, fast. The menu focuses on waffles, serving most breakfast meals with a waffle as a side item. You can choose from all the typical egg meals and even grits. The standard shape of the Waffle House offers diners an open view of the griddle as your food is cooked to order.

    Perkins

    • Perkins theme statement is: "breakfast is just the beginning." Known for inventive scrambles, you can find a well-rounded breakfast menu featuring everything from chicken fried steak to tomatoes to onions to mix in your scramble. The restaurant began in the south and typically features many southern-inspired dishes including sausage gravy with many items such as chicken fried steak, biscuits or even on the scramble. Most breakfast items can be served with fruit in place of potato-based sides. The scrambles and omelets can all be made with just egg whites.
