Dutchess County covers 800 square miles of the Hudson River Valley in New York state. The county, 90 minutes north of New York City, is a popular tourist area. It has historic sites, parks and wineries. The river also draws visitors. Cultural events are held in Dutchess County every year.
This two-day event attracts visitors from around the area to watch 80 local artists work in their studios in Beacon, New York. Art mediums such as sculpture, photography, painting and drawing are represented. Visitors are encouraged to begin at Beacon Open Studios headquarters at Hudson Beach Glass and pick up maps for the self-guided tour. Most of the art studios are on or near Main Street in Beacon.

The Dutchess County Fair is held every August in Rhinebeck, New York. It offers live music from nationally known recording acts, horse and cattle shows, an arts and crafts fair, food booths and carnival rides. Some events are geared toward children, such as Bixby's Rainforest Rescue, which is designed to teach children about saving the animals and plants in the rain forest.

The Hudson River Valley Ramble showcases the history and resources of the Hudson River Valley. It includes more than 200 events over three weekends in the fall. Hikes, bike tours, kayaking, tours of historic sites and festivals are part of the ramble. Some events have specific themes, such as the region's role in the Revolutionary War or the landscape painters who were part of the Hudson River Valley school movement in the 19th century.
