List of Things to Do in Redwood National Park

Located in the northern region of California near the Oregon state line, the Redwood National and State Parks encompasses 131,983 acres of both federal and state land, according to the National Park Service's website, nps.gov. The protected area includes three state parks along with the national park, and this area offers visitors plenty of activities to do among the giant trees.

  1. Visitor Centers

    • The Redwood National and State Parks features five visitor centers spread throughout the park, which offer travelers an abundance of information in the form of publications, maps and knowledgeable staff to answer any questions you have about activities in the park. Stop by one or all of the centers to get the latest information on park events, special programs or weather conditions to get the most out of your trip. Most of the visitor centers feature exhibits, gift shops, picnic areas, trail heads and restrooms. The visitor centers from north to south are within a 40-mile corridor.

    Scenic Drives/Trail Heads

    • Traveling through the Redwood National and State Parks scenic drive areas by car, bicycle or foot provides amazing views of this diverse area. Choose from unpaved scenic drives among the massive redwoods that feature numerous trail heads to explore along Howland Hill Road. Davison Road will take you from the forest to the beach region of the park and features a 30-foot wall of ferns, known as Fern Canyon. Paved scenic drives include the Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway that passes through the old-growth forest region, Enderts Beach Road that runs along the ocean and Requa Road that is located next to the Klamath River.

    Ranger-led Programs and Events

    • Visitors of all ages can take part in a number of programs and events held throughout the Redwood National and State Parks region. Rangers and other trained personnel run these free, entertaining and educational activities. The visitor centers and park campgrounds offer information about the various programs available. Some of these activities include tide pool walks along the coastal region, campfire programs in two of the park's campgrounds, nature walks throughout the park and special junior ranger programs for kids aged 7 to 12.
