Redwood National Park Information

Redwood National Park is part of a complex of parks that includes three state redwood parks maintained by California. The national park preserves thousands of acres of redwood trees and is home to animals, coastline and outdoor activities.

    • Redwood National Park is in California near the Oregon border. According to the website nps.gov, the national park is 71,725 acres. The park remains about 40 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit year-round.

    History

    • The area became a national park on Oct. 2, 1968, according to nps.gov. The park expanded in 1978. In 2005, the federal government approved further expansion.

    Features

    • Visitors to Redwood National Park can enjoy several scenic drives or outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking and camping. Visitors can also go whale watching and see Roosevelt elk, bald eagles and seabirds. The park contains about 40 percent of the remaining old growth redwood forest and has 40 to 50 miles of coastline, according to Park Vision.
