When most people think about taking a trip to Disney World, they think of going as a family. However, there are many things to do without kids at Disney that can lead to a nice, relaxing--even romantic--adult getaway for two. Birnbaum even publishes a book entitled, "Disney World Without Kids" (see Resources).
There are many fine dining restaurants that cater more to adults (although children are allowed). There are not many kids who want to eat roast duck or truffle salads, as are served in certain spots at Disney World, but many adults flock to these places each night. If you are looking for a quiet places to have a romantic dinner, consider leaving the parks and searching the resorts for places to eat. The California Grille in the Contemporary resort offers California-inspired cuisine and overlooks the Magic Kingdom, giving an excellent view of the night-time fireworks. Artist's Point at the Wilderness Lodge gives diners a sample of the Pacific Northwest.
Disney World has three spas on property for you to choose from--at the Grand Floridian, at Saratoga Springs and at the Disney Dolphin. Even if you don't stay at these hotels, you can still book an appointment at any one of these resorts for a day of pampering. The spas don't allow children under 16, so you don't have to worry about kids at all when you step through the doors. All you need to figure out is what kind of massage and facial you want.
These two areas are open late and serve as Disney's answer to Orlando's nightlife. For the most part, after about 9 p.m., you won't find very many children in these areas. However, there is still plenty to do. Most of the restaurants are open in Downtown Disney until well after midnight, and the shops close late as well. The House of Blues frequently has top-name singers performing at its arena. At Disney's Boardwalk, there are a couple of clubs, including Jellyrolls, a dueling-piano bar. Kids are allowed, but not many are in attendance later at night. The other club on the Boardwalk is the Atlantic Dance Hall, which plays music from the '70s to the '90s and is exclusively for patrons 21 and over.
