The Eastern part of Tennessee is best known for being home to the Great Smoky Mountains along with other attractions and lodging options ranging from full service resorts to rustic cabins. The World's Fair Park and Festival Center in Knoxville is an attraction that has evolved into an entertainment complex housing various attractions. The 1982 World's Fair that was hosted in Knoxville created the complex to support the event. One area that is popular with visitors of all ages is the water fountain that features dancing fountains that guests can run through to cool off. The original architectural symbol of the fair still remains and is called the Sunsphere. Guests can visit the top of the tower and take in the surrounding views for a nominal fee. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is situated in the Eastern part of Tennessee near Gatlinburg. The Smoky Mountains span both Tennessee and North Carolina.
