Located in Cook County, just 12 miles northwest of Chicago, Elmwood Park is the ideal place to get away for the weekend or a day. The one square-mile village offers easy access to Chicago and Elgin, Illinois and countless opportunities for recreational, shopping and sight-seeing visits. Relax at one of Elmwood Park's bed and breakfasts or play a round of golf at a nearby course; or, while in Elmwood, hop on Metra, Illinois' six-county rail service, for a quick journey to downtown Chicago.
Elmwood's one square mile is all land; however, you may still enjoy a trip to the beach. Oak Street beach is just 30 minutes away and with the many hotels in the vicinity accommodation is not a concern. Hotel cost ranges between $70 and $100 per night. Oak Street beach is a public beach featuring a beach bar for food and drinks, a volleyball court, lounging chairs for sunbathers and a concrete path for in-line skaters. One of the most popular attractions of this beach is the massage tent operated by Coups de Main Massage Therapy, which serves as a rejuvenation point. One thing to remember is that credit cards are not accepted on this beach---vendors accept cash only!
There are a number of golf courses located in or near Elmwood Park. Some options include showing off your skills at the Indian Boundary Partner Golf Center or improving your drive at Oak Park Country Club. The Indian Boundary and Oak Park country club offer well-maintained courses, driving ranges and miniature golf courses while the Partner Golf is a golf-simulating center. Professional lessons to improve golfing techniques are available at the complexes. Weekend rates fall between $25 and $35 for an 18-hole game. Golfing equipment is available for hire.
Elmwood Park can be a great place to unwind over the weekend. The Harvey House Bed and Breakfast is an excellent lodging choice. Rejuvenate yourself at the spas and massage facilities or relax in the large Jacuzzi tub. Spend an evening relaxing in front of the fireplace or watch your favorite show on the flat screen television. Harvey House Bead and Breakfast even offers kitchenettes if you are inclined to cook. Room rates start from $180 per night. The Lake theatre, which is an architectural landmark, is close by and there are many bars in the area including Circle's Inn and the Hunter's Tavern.
