Miami is a tourist destination known for its beaches and clubs. But these are not the only activities that guests in the area can enjoy. In fact, plenty of excellent public golf courses are available. Many of these courses are very challenging. A handful are located near Miami.
Bayshore is in Miami Beach, just east of downtown Miami. It is a well-established golf course in operation since 1940. This course has a par of 27 over nine holes. From the farthest tees, Pines is 1,300 yards long. This public course does not have a driving range and does not have golf courts available for rent. However, golf clubs can be rented from the main office. It's open year-round. Rates are $8.50 per round of golf as of September 2010.

Hollybrook is a condominium community in Pembroke, just north of North Miami. Hollybrook offers free golf to its residents, and electric golf carts can be rented at any time for an annual $15 fee. Hollybrook also hosts men's and women's tournaments every week, on Saturday and Thursday, respectively. Owners of condominiums in Hollybrook can also use its 14 tennis courts for free. Both hard and grass courts are available.

Don Shula's Hotel and Golf Club is a golf club resort in Miami Lakes, just north of Miami International Airport and west of North Miami. This site has two nine-hole executive golf courses. The par for the two courses combined is 72. Besides the courses, this golf resort has men's and women's locker facilities, a pro shop and a driving range. Golf packages start around $750 per person as of September 2010. These packages include five nights of stay at the hotel and five rounds of golf. Membership packages are also available.

Briar Bay Golf Course is a nine-hole, par-31 executive golf course managed by Miami-Dade County and originally built in 1974. An estimated 40,000 rounds of golf are played here every year. Briar Bay is open daily from 7 a.m. until sunset.
