Mount Charleston is a mountain getaway just 60 minutes northwest of Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. Mount Charleston has enough snow every winter for skiing and inner tubing. Bundle up in your winter gear, grab a tube and head to the hills for a day of adventure and fun.
Purchase sleds, discs and tubes early in the season. Do not wait or they will be difficult to find. Put air in tubes at a gas station or with an air compressor at home.
Pack a picnic lunch and hot cocoa. Pack cups for cocoa, plenty of napkins and paper goods for lunch.
Dress in layers of clothing. Wear an outer layer that is waterproof because the snow tends to be heavy and wet.
Drive North on I-15 from the Las Vegas Strip. Merge onto US 95 West towards Reno. Turn left on highway 157.
Follow highway 157 to Highway 158. Drive along Highway 158 until you find a clearing that has hills and is good for tubing. Continue to Highway 156 and head towards the resort if there is no snow on 158.
Pull off the side of the road and park as close to the guardrail as possible. Hop the guardrail and hike to the top of the hill.
Jump on your tube or sled, and ride it to the bottom. Continue to ride the same run several time to pack the snow down and pick up speed.
