Rockland County, New York: The Local Colleges

There are many different options for higher education in Rockland County, New York. Colleges throughout the county offer hundreds of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Some schools in Rockland County offer lower tuition to students from New York state. Several colleges have programs specifically designed for adults with full-time jobs who want to work on degrees by taking evening or weekend classes.

    Empire State College

    • Empire State College has 35 locations in the state of New York, including one in Rockland County. The college is designed for working adults and offers distance learning, credit for life experience and independent study options. Empire State College awards undergraduate and graduate degrees. For the 2009 to 2010 school year, tuition for New York residents was $5,195. Tuition for out-of-state students was $13,095.

    Rockland Community College

    • Rockland Community College is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. It offers a total of 42 programs, including 30 associate's degrees and 12 professional certificate programs. Many students take courses at Rockland Community College and then transfer to a four-year college to complete a bachelor's degree.
