The Best Rabbit Hunting Locations in Lowndes County, Alabama

Small-game hunting is a popular option for sportsmen in Alabama. Deer, boar, and other large animals get much of the attention from hunting guide outfits and travelers, but the Cotton State's rabbits and squirrels are also sought-after game. The south-central area of Alabama offers unique experiences to outdoorsmen of all abilities.There are public-hunting tracts in Lowndes County, as well as private ranches and leases. If you are planning to hunt small game only on the state's Wildlife Management Area, you need to purchase a permit. The rabbit-hunting season runs from early October until the end of February.

  1. Lowndes County Wildlife Management Area (WMA)

    • This tract of public hunting land has over 10,000 acres for hunting big and small game during designated seasons. When visiting the Lowndes WMA, register yourself at the checking station on Hunters Loop Road off Henderson Road. Traps for small game hunting are available from the designated Area Biologist.

    Oakmulgee WMA

    • About an hour and a half drive from Lowndes County, another state Wildlife Management Area is open for rabbit hunting during the state designated season, except on days when planned primitive weapons deer hunts are scheduled. The Oakmulgee WMA is much larger than the Lowndes County WMA, at just over 44,000 acres. Permit are available at several area hunting supply shops and businesses.

    Fin and Feather Farm

    • Located about an hour from the center of Lowndes County, Fin and Feather Farm in Uniontown is a private-hunting tract offering extensive small-game opportunities to visitors. Full lodging, including meals and hunting preparations are available at Fin and Feather, as well as meeting rooms and ample space to host a group.
