Summer programs for children at the Albuquerque Biopark introduce kids to nature, wildlife and marine life through exploration and creative play. Day camps are available for children up to the age of 13 in both half- and full-day programs, but younger children must be accompanied by an adult. All programs range in price between $125 and $210, according to 2010 prices.
The Albuquerque Biopark has preschool programs for children up to 6 years of age that are conducted once each week for half a day. The Farm Sprouts program demonstrates life on a farm. Children pick berries and milk a cow and spend plenty of time singing songs, making crafts and playing games. Children in the Nature Beginnings program observe the natural beauty of the ocean and learn about animals worldwide. The Tingley Trekkers go on a pint-sized hike to the Rio Grande and explore local wildlife on land and water.
Children in this age category can choose between half-day and full-day programs that take place once per week. The Discover the Zoo program involves a trip to the zoo where children are introduced to animals from around the world, from frogs to elephants and everything in between. The Flower Power Fishy Fun program explores plants, fish and bugs. The Discover the Biopark program has children riding on a train and visiting polar bears at the zoo. Children in the Land and Ocean Locomotion learn about animal locomotion and take a trail ride to the zoo to see the animals in action.
The programs for this age group include half- and full-day options once each week. The Animal Art program visits zoo animals and creates animal sculptures. Children in the Eco-Explorers program learn all about the wide variety of animal habitats throughout the world, while Zoo Explorers learn about the care of wild and exotic animals. Undersea Adventurers learn about sharks, plankton, whales and more.
The full-day programs for this age group include the Animal Behaviors program and Expedition Earth. The science-oriented animal behaviors camp encourages children to learn about interpreting behavior and the outside influences on animal behavior in the zoo. Expedition Earth participants explore all the creeping, crawling, swimming and flying things to be found. Lessons are provided by aquarium and garden biologists.
