Murrieta is a city in Riverside County, California, in a valley of oak trees, sycamores, rich grasses and natural hot springs. In 1873, Juan Murrieta brought 100,000 sheep from Spain after his brother bought 52,000 acres here. The city named after Juan grew from a population of 2,200 in 1980 to over 100,000 in 2008, making it the fastest growing city in California. Many of its residents commute to jobs in other counties, or to its more industrialized neighbor Temecula.
