Ocean City is located on the northeast coast of Maryland, approximately 120 miles west of the state capital at Annapolis. Due to its temperate climate and sprawling white-sand beaches, the city has been a renowned resort destination since the late 19th century, when it was known as "The Ladies Resort to the Ocean." A wooden boardwalk was originally constructed in 1902. Destroyed by a storm in 1962, the boardwalk was rebuilt to its present day form, and remains one of Maryland's most popular tourist destinations.
