Windham is a small city located in southern New Hampshire. Though the town is close to the White Mountains, Boston and Manchester Airport, Windham remains mostly rural. Nevertheless, Windham has experienced periods of great economic development, and there are several independent restaurants that are part of this small community. Windham restaurants feature several kinds of cuisine, from seafood to Italian to good-old American-style comfort food.
The first Common Man restaurant actually opened in Ashland, New Hampshire. But the food and ambiance proved so successful that more Common Mans were opened in other cities across the state, including Windham. The restaurant is located inside a traditional little red barn and serves, according to its website, "American fare with New England flair." Dishes at the Common Man include simple ones like baked onion soup, spaghetti and meatballs, country meatloaf, steakhouse salad, fresh mussels, baked macaroni and cheese and pigs in a blanket. But there are more elaborate and creative entrees such as stuffed sole, Atlantic salmon in cranberry orange butter, butternut squash ravioli, lobster and crab flatbread and "Nantucket Saute": mussels, shrimp, scallops and calamari in a lobster cream sauce. The Common Man also serves desserts like ice cream puffs and mud pie, and has a lengthy wine list filled with reds, whites, ports, champagnes and sparkling wines.

The Windham Restaurant has been a part of the city since 1729, when its site was operating as a farm. Now, the Windham is a fine dining bistro, which New Hampshire Magazine says has "great atmosphere" and whose food is "bursting with flavors." One interesting part of the restaurant's atmosphere may be ghosts; the Windham is reputed to be haunted. Diners at the Windham can order "small plates" of pumpkin tortellini, lamb chops, fried broccoli, escargot or shrimp cakes, or larger entrees of raspberry-ginger duck, chicken cordon bleu, walnut salmon, linguine and clams, filet mignon or New York sirloin steak.
