The Treasure Coast is an area of Florida that stretches along the state's east coast from the city of Sebastian south to the city of Stuart. The Treasure Coast received its name from the numerous shipwrecks off its shores, according to Visit Treasure Coast Florida. The beaches often take center stage, but the Treasure Coast area also offers ecological, cultural and physical activities for kids.
Located in the city of Jensen Beach at the Indian River Park, the Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast is a hands-on interactive museum for kids. Role playing exhibits include Our Town Market, where children learn about nutrition and pretend to be stock clerks, cashiers, bakers and shoppers. At the Florida Cracker House, children learn about world cultures and have the opportunity to design their own homes. For younger children, A Day at the Beach teaches shape recognition and provides climbing activities. The museum sponsors camps, movies, special educational events and weekly story time. The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast is open every day and is closed on major U.S. holidays.
