A vacation to Hawaii evokes images of sandy beaches, gleaming water, volcanoes in the background and perhaps hula dancers around a fire pit. You can experience all this, but you have to get there first. Fortunately, you can research and book your customized Hawaiian vacation right at home with your computer.
Browse travel arrangement websites. Some, such as Priceline.com or Orbitz.com are general travel sites; others are dedicated exclusively to Hawaii. These include GoHawaiianVacations.com, Blue-Hawaii.com, on the island of Maui, and Travel-Hawaii.com. Research dates, flights and costs across at least two or three travel websites to make sure you are getting the best deal.
Determine the length of your vacation. Most travel websites have trip calendars for which you can enter departure and return dates for flight times and cost estimates. Some dates will affect flight prices and hotel availability. Note that summers in Hawaii can be hot and dry while November through March tends to be a rainier season.
Choose your destination. Each Hawaiian island has at least one airport. If you plan to stay on a single island for the duration of your trip, it can save time to fly in to the local airport.
Pick accommodations for the duration of your stay. This does not have to be done in conjunction with the flight, but booking flights and accommodations through the same website can provide discounts on the overall price. Hotels are usually ranked according to services provided, cleanliness, room size and price.
Decide if you want extra amenities, including car rental, tour guides or vacation activities such as theater, access to national parks and aquatic activities. These can be added to the cost of the vacation booking.
Confirm the flight itinerary you have chosen, the selected hotel and any other vacation additions that have been bundled together.
Provide personal and financial information to secure your dates and prices. Some websites require you to register to complete this process, others do not. Have a major credit card on hand to pay for and complete the booking.
Receive and print out an email confirmation of your Hawaii vacation itinerary.
