Long Beach Island, known by locals as LBI, is a New Jersey island community. This barrier island is mainly a summer community. Aligned north to south, the northern end is more upscale and higher end, with the landmark of the Barnegat Lighthouse. As this is an island, it is only fitting that there are many fresh seafood restaurants on LBI.
The Lobster Claw Restaurant is located in mid-Long Beach Island. Cape Cod Life magazine has voted the Lobster Claw as having the best lobster rolls and the best clam chowder in the area. Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, this restaurant has been serving the area for more than 40 years. It has a main dining room and the Surfboat Lounge which boasts a large boat as the bar. On the menu, besides the award-winning lobster rolls and clam chowder, are dishes such as broiled swordfish, barbecue salmon, fried clam strips, poached haddock and clams. There is also chicken, steak and sandwiches as well as a children's menu.

Harvey Cedars Shellfish Company was opened in 1974 on the northern end of Long Beach Island. Zagat Survey recognizes the restaurant as a local institution and premier dining spot. Harvey Cedars Shellfish Company specializes in fresh and local seafood. There is a dish called \"blistered clams\"—littleneck clams steamed just enough to reveal a pocket of briny juice that is almost bursting open. There are also dishes such as Manhattan and New England-styled clam chowder, wild shrimp with garlic scampi sauce and linguine noodles and u-peel shrimp seasoned in Old Bay. This restaurant is BYOB but conveniently there is a wine shop next door.

The Boathouse Restaurant is located towards the southern tip of Long Beach Island. This spacious waterfront restaurant has floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Atlantic Ocean. Open for lunch seven days a week and dinner every night except Sunday, the Boathouse Restaurant offers dine-in and take-out service. On the menu are options such as coconut encrusted shrimp, garlic sea scallops, tequila lime mahi mahi, fresh steamed lobster and pan seared tuna. There are also steaks and pastas on the menu as well. The Boathouse Restaurant also features a seafood market. Fresh catch from the morning is brought to the seafood market to be sold during the afternoon and then is used in the dishes that evening.
