The Florida Panhandle covers most of western Florida. This part of Florida is a haven for tourists, retirees and locals alike, bringing about a culture as diverse as any large city. Therefore, there are many interesting festivities that take place year-round in this part of the United States.

  1. Bushwacker Festival

    • The Bushwacker Festival is held annually in Pensacola, Florida. The bars and restaurants on the Portofino Boardwalk on Pensacola Beach open up each year to serve a Penscola favorite, the milk-chocolate-flavored alcoholic Bushwacker. Along with excellent food and beverage, there is always a 5K run and live bands playing at the Bushwacker Festival along the boardwalk. Admission the festival is free.

    Greater Gulf Coast Arts Festival

    • The Greater Gulf Coast Arts Festival is held annually the first weekend in November in Seville Square in Pensacola, Florida. The art show attracts more than 200 of the United State’s best artists, including potters, painters, jewelers, craftsman and graphic designers. Dance and song performances continue throughout the weekend-long festival, and there are activities for children and adults alike, from face painting to art classes. Admission to the festival is free.

    Panhandle Watermelon Festival

    • Located in Chipley, Florida, this festival is held the last Saturday in June. Chipley is a small, rural town that goes all-out for this festival. The festival begins with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by a beauty pageant for women of all ages; a 5,000 meter run; a Car and Truck Show, tournament horseshoe competition; and square dancing. Singers and special guests perform throughout the day. The event is open to the public, and no admission is charged.
