Community Colleges in the San Diego Area

Wherever you live in San Diego County, you'll find one of eight accredited community colleges close by. These two-year colleges offer a variety of certificate and associate degree programs, and many students transfer to four-year schools that include California State University, San Marcos; San Diego State University; and the University of California, San Diego.

  1. MiraCosta College

    • In the northwest corner of the county, MiraCosta's 15,000 students enroll in majors such as business administration, commercial music and law enforcement. The school also has a competitive surfing team.

    Palomar College

    • Over 27,000 students enroll in courses that are semester length, eight-week "Fast Track," or are on TV or online. Programs include emergency medical education, and apprenticeships such as carpentry and plasterer. Palomar serves the northeastern section of San Diego County.

    San Diego Community College District

    • This district has three colleges---City, Mesa and Miramar---within the boundaries of the city of San Diego:

      San Diego City College
      This downtown campus enrolls over 15,000 students and offers programs such as biotechnology, fitness, cosmetology and musical theater. It has a state of the art theater and runs an award winning jazz radio station.

    • The two schools in this district serve the eastern area of San Diego County.

    • Located just north of the Mexican border, Southwestern's 18,000 students enroll in associate degree and certificate programs including pharmaceutical and laboratory science, telemedia and perioperative nursing.
