Arizona isn't all deserts and tumbleweeds. The city of Mesa, the third largest in the state (after Phoenix and Tuscon), offers exciting sightseeing, shopping, tours and relaxation for all visitors.

  1. Best Travel Time

    • Mesa's best time for visitors may be in the months surrounding its winter time. Temperatures range from the 30s to the 60s. Summer temperatures range from the 70s to 100 degrees. Rain is infrequent, averaging about 9.23 inches per year; March is the wettest month.

    Chicago Cubs Training

    • The Chicago Cubs train at HoHoKam Park in Mesa every spring. In 35 days, 200 major league games are played.

    History

    • Mesa is rich in history and opportunities for visitors to explore it. Places to visit include the Arizona Museum of Natural History, Arizona Museum for Youth and the Commemorative Air Force Museum.

    Shopping

    • Arizona is not all crystals and mysticism. Tourists who love to shop for memorable trinkets and souvenirs will find their hands full at Mesa's offerings: the Fiesta Mall, Mesa Marketplace Swap Meet and custom jewelers.

    Flowers in Bloom

    • Mesa is home to beautiful foliage, blooming throughout the year. From March through May, see ocotillo and hedgehog cacti blossoms. Cacti like the Saguaro bloom biggest in late May through June. Wildflowers peak in March and have prime viewing spots at Lost Dutchman State Park and Boyce Thompson State Park.

    Hiking and Activities

    • Hike through Mesa during spring and all to explore historical areas such as the Superstition Mountains, Usery Mountain Regional Park, Apache Trail, and the Salt and Verde Rivers. Lower level activity includes a cruise on the Dolly Steamboat via the Canyon Lake.
