The Las Vegas Strip might be the area for which Sin City is most recognized, but some of the best gambling is in downtown Las Vegas. The odds on games are generally more favorable on Fremont Street, with lower minimum bets than are found on the Strip. Nearly all casinos have the standard gambling games of slots, poker, blackjack, craps and roulette.
One of the oldest properties in Las Vegas, Binion's also has one of the best single-deck blackjack games, which as of 2009 allows doubling on any two starting cards and re-splitting of any pairs. This was once home to the World Series of Poker, and the property still has a popular poker room and plenty of daily tournaments.
This casino is a block away from the Fremont Street Experience. It offers a blackjack game similar to the one at Binion's. El Cortez has plenty of promotions for its slots players, including new player sign-up bonuses, as do most of the casinos around Vegas.
Certainly the most luxurious of the downtown casinos, Golden Nugget is a comfortable place to play with plush seating and plenty of room between the rows of slots and pit games. It also has a nice poker room with daily tournaments. New players can get free slot play, usually between $2 and $100.
Located about a block off of Fremont Street, Main Street Station has one of the best craps games in Las Vegas. The game offers 20 times odds, which means you can put an odds bet of up to $100 on a $5 pass line bet on the craps table. The odds bet is paid at the true odds, meaning the house edge in this game is minuscule.
