Spend the day lingering on the sun on Atlantic City's free beach or take the kids on an amusement ride at the infamous Steel Pier, originally opened in 1898. Now it's filled with rides for the kids, carnival games and sweet treats, all located over the Atlantic Ocean just across from the Trump Taj Mahal casino. Other family-friendly attractions include The Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum, located on New York Avenue and the Boardwalk; The Imax Theater at Tropicana Casino; and the Atlantic City Art Center on Garden Pier.
Enjoy the wooden boardwalk lined with casinos, shops and eateries. This four-mile boardwalk, created in 1870, was the first to ever be built and was made to keep the sand from the beach out of the local merchants' stores. It's now a popular attraction that other shore resorts have emulated. While strolling the boards, stop for salt water taffy, another Atlantic City original, first introduced in the late 19th century and now a popular souvenir.
