Regardless of season, New York City has something to offer. Weather you're looking to avoid the cold or the heat, the city has heaps of things to do. Though many suggest the only time to visit is during the fall, each season offers its own rewards for the intrepid traveler.

  1. Winter

    • Keep a straight face as the heat of summer attempts to melt you to water. Summer in New York City is famously hot and muggy. That's the bad news. The good news is that the city is overloaded with things to do. Also, though not as cheap as winter, many hotels offer discounts during this time.

      Sing along with your favorite acts in Central Park. Summerstage produces free music concerts all summer long at Rumsey Playfield. Macy's sponsors a Fourth of July fireworks celebration. The New York Philharmonic offers free outdoor concerts. The Fringe Festival stages multiple theater productions. Lastly, the surf at Long Beach is perfect for those looking to escape the heat.

    Fall

    • Breathe a sigh of relief as the summer finally fades into Autumn. To many, Autumn is the best time to visit New York. By October, temperatures demand a sweater and make fall the best time of year for you to comfortably enjoy walking tours. This is the beginning of high season so book hotels and flights well in advance.

      Expect high crowds throughout this season. For you, fall in New York means the beginning of opera season, the pure fun of the Halloween Parade, the New York City Marathon, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and holiday displays in the shop windows on Fifth Avenue.
