What Is There to Do on Hutchinson Island, Florida?

Hutchinson Island is a barrier island off Florida's Atlantic coast. The island is home to miles of beaches, plentiful wildlife, museums, water sports and New York Mets baseball.

  1. Beaches

    • North and South Hutchinson islands offer 23 miles of beaches with natural sand dunes. Swim, sun or relax.

    Water Sports

    • The natural reefs and shipwrecks off Hutchinson Island make this a great spot for scuba divers and snorkelers. Visitors can also sail, fish, surf or take a boat tour.

    Wildlife

    • It's common to see manatees in island waters, especially during winter. Sea turtles lay eggs along the beaches; Florida Power and Light sponsors Turtle Walks so visitors get a chance to watch hatchlings. Several parks near the island are also great for birding.

    Events

    • Each year, the New York Mets hold spring training in nearby Port St. Lucie. For year-round baseball, watch the St. Lucie Mets. The weekly Jammin' Jensen and other small festivals bring local artists, music and other vendors to Jensen Beach.

    Things to See

    • The National Navy UDT-Seal Museum showcases Naval Special Warfare. The House of Refuge is a national historic site originally built to shelter survivors of shipwrecks.
