Interesting Places in Minnesota

Minnesota offers a number of attractions for the tourist. From the start of the Mississippi to the place where "Purple Rain" was filmed, Minnesota has sites to see.

  1. Lake Itasca

    • This small glacial lake in northwestern Minnesota is the source of the mighty Mississippi River. Visitors are able to stand on either side of the small creek that ultimately becomes the major river of the country.

    Spam Museum

    • Located in Austin, Hormel's Spam Museum is a tribute and historical analysis of all things Spam. In addition to the facility, the town hosts Spam Jam, a celebration that coincides with the Fourth of July.

    First Avenue

    • A renovated train station, the First Avenue nightclub opened in 1970. It featured the start of nearly every important musician and band from Minnesota including Prince, Atmosphere, The Replacements, Husker Du, Soul Asylum and Dillinger Four.

    Wabasha Street Caves

    • Located off Wabasha Street in St. Paul, the Wabasha Street Caves features tours of a series of caves that stretch beneath the city. The caves feature old speakeasies and demonstrate the mob violence and illegal liquor trade that occurred underground.

    Aerial Lift Bridge

    • Built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1905, the Aerial Lift Bridge is one of two bridges in the country which lifts vertically to allow ships to pass through the canal in the port of Duluth.
