With beautiful beaches, picture-perfect climate and variety of activities, it is one of America's best loved cities among visitors and residents alike. Each year, hundreds of events celebrate the lifestyle of this seaside town. There are plenty to choose from for a special mother/daughter day to remember.

  1. Feasting

    • Each January, San Diego's best chefs sharpen their culinary skills for Restaurant Week. A variety of mouthwatering menus are designed to give foodies the chance to sample the fare at San Diego's great restaurants at a fraction of the price. Tickets range from $20 to $40. For mothers and daughters who love the culinary arts, this is a feast!

    Arts & Culture

    • San Diego's little Italy section is home to Art Week, where collections of emerging and established artists are displayed. In addition to paintings, sculpture and photography, the event features performance artists and live music. This event is very popular, so get tickets early. In 2010, it will celebrate 26 years of bringing art to San Diego.

As the saying goes, the family that plays together stays together. So how about running a marathon? The Rock and Roll Marathon places a different rock band every couple of miles to help cheer on the thousands of runners. There are also events scheduled around the actual marathon. In 2009, Fleetwood Mac headlined the event.

    Hit the Water

    • San Diego is famous for its beautiful coastline and Pacific waters. And every winter, one of nature's most majestic creatures visits the area, to the delight of all. From December to March, California's gray whales migrate from the colder northern waters to the warmer southern waters. Sometimes visible from the beach, this yearly event is best observed from one of the many whale watching cruises.

Get even closer to nature at a surfing school designed just for women! Surf Diva Surf School, in nearby La Jolla, has taught thousands women since 1996. Moms and daughters can choose from 2 day weekend camps, 5 day camps, special summer camps or private lessons. You can even learn to surf with your bridal party at a special bachelorette party. What better way to spend the day than conquering the sport of kings.
