Things to See in Western New York State

Western New York State is known for its beautiful landscapes, strong academic universities and winter sports. If you are visiting this part of the state, here are some must-see attractions.

  1. UB Anderson Gallery, Buffalo, Erie County

    • Located in University Heights, close to the University at Buffalo's South Campus, the UB Anderson Gallery is housed in an award-winning, renovated building, housing a collection of modern and contemporary art. It is best known for its soaring glass atrium, which is in and of itself a masterpiece. It is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11-5PM, and Sundays from 1-5 PM. Admission is free.

    Beaver Meadow Audubon Center, North Java, Wyoming County

    • For the outdoor person, the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center is a great stop to make. Beavers, which were once nearly extinct in this part of the state, are now thriving in this reserve. Visitors are allowed to walk along the beaver pond and wetlands to try and get a glimpse of these animals. There are also miles of trails and forest to keep visitors busy.

    Kissing Bridge in Glenwood

    • Located on Rt. 240, the Kissing Bridge is a "flexible ticketing" ski lodge that offers a 1,750-ft. vertical drop at the summit and 37 trails for skiing. Tubing, night skiing, half pipe and terrain snowboarding are also available. In addition, daily lift tickets are available for four- to eight-hour allotments, with an "unlimited" option also available.
