Dollywood, the theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee founded by singer Dolly Parton, promotes itself as a "family fun vacation adventure." That means the park has plenty or rides, attractions and entertainment aimed at children. Any trip to the park would naturally need to include some time for the kids to take advantage of those options.
Check the dollywood.com website for its current ticket prices and family deals. The tab "Plan" has a link to vacation packages, park tickets, season passes and special offers. The three-day pass will cover a weekend trip and should be enough time to see and do everything at the park. Get the tickets in advance if possible.
View the current show schedule under dollywood.com/shows. The show schedule is subject to change, and the website may only list them for two weeks at a time. Most of the shows are country music programs, but there are family-friendly movies. The Chasing Rainbows Museum is open every day except Tuesday and Thursday.
Plan any meals in advance. While the park does have plenty of food options, there may be cheaper options in the city. Dollywood also enforces a light dress code. No one can go shirtless, and all shorts and pants must completely cover the wearer's rear end. Sandals and flip-flops are acceptable, but no one can go barefoot.
Some of the Dollywood rides run through water, especially those in Splash Country. On top of that, the size of the park means a family will be exposed to the elements for a long day. Bring light towels, sunscreen, and a stroller if you have very young children. The park does have strollers to rent. Bring a second set of clothes, or at least a second top. This can come in handy if it rains or someone gets soaked on a ride.
